Eastport A Rockin’

Created as a way to expose local music to a larger audience, Eastport a Rockin’ draws attendees from throughout the neighborhood and across the region and is known as the local music festival of the summer. Three stages host more than 25 bands, keeping music a key component of Eastport a Rockin. Up and coming local bands with a wide range of styles display their talents alongside longtime favorites. Over the years, Eastport a Rockin’ has featured such bands as Good Charlotte and Jimmie’s Chicken Shack, and the next big act just might be in this year’s line-up. From rock to folk to roots to blues to jazz to bluegrass to funk, the breadth of music types found at the Festival is sure to please everyone who attends.

With an unbeatable location surrounding the Annapolis Maritime Museum on Back Creek in Annapolis’ historic maritime district of Eastport, this daylong festival offers everything an attendee could want. Mouth-watering food, including local seafood, BBQ, gyros,  shave ice and more, will be available as will thirst quenching beverages, including Miller and Yuengling products and a full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, smoothies and coffee drinks. The Kids Area, always a popular section of the festival, will feature a moon bounces, face painters, tattoo artists and other great family-friendly activities. The streets and sidewalks will be lined with vendor booths featuring local artisans, crafters, non-profit organizations, entertainment and more.

Proceeds from the event benefit deserving local charities including The Annapolis Maritime Museum, the Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians (AMFM) and the Eastport Volunteer Fire Department. Dogs (on leashes) and strollers are welcome, coolers and outside food and beverages are not.

This event is on the first Sunday of each month May to October on Calvert and West Streets in Historic Annapolis, Maryland. Thousands attend, both locals and tourists buying from local and regional artists and crafters.

History Established in 2001

In 2001 the seed was planted after 2 art receptions (ARTFX gallery & 49 West Coffeehouse) on West Street held at the same time started to spill into the sidewalks between the two on the first Sunday evening of each month. In 2002 Other businesses on the first block on West Street joined in and the event start filling the sidewalks of West street and went from and evening event into an all day event known as First Sunday Arts .

In 2003 West Street was closed in front of the 2 businesses for some much need public works improvements. During this time of no car access, the event moved into the street. By the time the West street construction was finished the event was so large it required the street to be closed on all First Sundays from May to October.

In 2008 the event was maxed out and no room was left to showcase new vendors on the first block of West Street that wanted to showcase their art and craft to the thousands now attending. We also wanted an area that could host larger groups for performances, dancing etc. So we added Whitemore Park on Calvert Street to the festival.

In 2009 the area under the trees on the corner of West and Calvert Streets, across from City Gate Lane was added to the Festival to give a little bit more room and fill in the gap between the 2 larger festival areas.

Silopanna Music Fest

Silopanna Music Fest

Sponsored by The Rams Head Group – they’re we’re all about Food, Fun & Beer.

What started in 1989 as a small, 30-seat pub in Annapolis, Maryland has grown over the last 25 years. And through that growth, our committment to yummy food, craft beer and music has only grown stronger. Much stronger. They book nearly 700 concerts in Maryland (@ramsheadlive, @ramsheadonstage, @piersixpavilion) plus 600+ nights of free, live & local music in our restaurants. Every year. That’s a lot of music.

So in 2011, they thought let’s get crazy and we launched Silopanna Music Festival. Hurricane Irene had other plans for them, and 2011 was Irene-d out. They were back in 2012 and man, that was a wicked time. And here they are in 2014, ready to go again. Silopanna is our daily commitment to Food, Fun & Beer wrapped up into one exceptional day in Annapolis… where it all started in ’89.
